The Lore of the Gotchi

First, the plain version: GotchiCode is a learn-to-code platform where every lesson is a small, tested coding challenge. As you pass challenges you earn XP, and your XP feeds a little creature, your Gotchi, who grows alongside you. The story below is the world that creature lives in. Everything in it maps to something real on the platform.

The Codeweald

Long before the first program compiled, the Gotchi drifted formless through the space between machines: little sparks of pure logic, gathering in a wild place the old rangers named the Codeweald. Each spark waits for a single apprentice, someone willing to learn, to give it shape.

The awakening

When you write your first working code, a spark condenses and your Gotchi takes form: a small, bright-eyed blob of a creature who knows nothing yet, but is endlessly curious. You give it a name, and it becomes yours. Your Gotchi cannot solve your challenges for you. That is not stubbornness; it is how the bond works. It can ask you the right question at the right moment, but the answer has to come from you, because the creature is built out of what you understand. The more you learn, the more it grows.

The ten tiers

Companions evolve as their apprentice earns XP: Novice, Apprentice, Journeyman, Adept, Artisan, Expert, Veteran, Master, and Grandmaster. Each tier sharpens your Gotchi's eyes and brightens its shell, and as it matures it gains limbs, horns, tails, and wilder things. On the platform, tiers come purely from the XP your passed lessons earn.

The three forms

A grown Gotchi takes after how its apprentice studies. Scholars of data and lore raise a sage-drake, antlered and trailed by floating runes. Builders raise a golem-drake, armor-plated with a hammer tail. Tinkerers of shells, systems and tools raise a spark-fox, quick-eared, mech-winged, and crackling with ideas. Your creature reads its form from the courses you actually complete, not from a menu.

The Archmage

Beyond XP lies one final form. When an apprentice completes an entire learning path, every course and every challenge, their Gotchi ascends to Archmage. It is the rarest evolution, and it can never be undone.
